fluency of purpose

From the UK, arrived in Thailand in 1990.
Good Thai speaking skills. Struggling Lao speaker.
I’ve worked in universities, language schools and local and international companies. Being able to help so many people build up their language and communication skills has been a hugely rewarding part of my life.I believe that learning a language means learning by doing. Language doesn't exist on its own. You need to practice English with the same skills and contexts you use in real life. And you should work and improve from the language you already have, rather than following a path set by a textbook.2000 - 2024: English Department, School of Humanities & Tourism Management, Bangkok University. Many happy years teaching intercultural communication, discussion skills and other courses for students majoring in English. Also English for hospitality and tourism international programs, which included students from many Asian countries.1992 - 2000: Royal Thai Naval Academy. I was an instructor on English language skills courses for navy students of all years.
Also part-time experience of in-company corporate teaching.
My experience has given me a good understanding of the challenges Asian learners face when using English at work and for real-life communication.
